‘Involving Indigenous People and Local Communities to achieve and strengthen Sustainable forest and Climate Change Adaptation, ASFACA’  is a community initiative implemented by Shepherd Mission with support from UNDP CLIMATE PROMISE Low Grants Programme. It is a one year program starting from January 2024 to December 2024 in Kalapata, Lorsuk and Kachakalau in Alale Ward. UNDP’s Climate Promise, came up after UNDP pledged to support at least 100 countries to enhance their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) ahead of COP26 at the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit in 2019. The project is targeting the Pastoral farmers of West Pokot County with primary targets from Alale  Wards.

This project contributes in addressing the problem of inadequate environment conservation initiative with Indigenous people and Community Members. Our approach seeks to inform, sensitize and empower the community on the practical and context-specific sustainable mechanisms of food production and Sustainable environmental management. However, in recognition of the community literacy and poverty level, they will be supported with seedling, tree nurseries and materials to conserve important sites like water point. For sustainability purposes, the community, SCOs and the government will be facilitated through an advocacy processes to enacted functional structures that will enhance forests conservation.
